Top 10 January 2012 MoviesFeb 03
The Filipino movie-going populace have missed some of the best movies 2011 had to offer. And this January 2012, we’re slowly coping up with the delayed releases of Hollywood movies like Sherlock Holmes 2, Alvin and the Chipmunks 3 and The Darkest Hour. And since January is almost over. I came up with a Top 10 List of January 2012 movies in both Hollywood and Philippine cinema. So here are the Top 10 January 2012 Movies list!
Note that movies marked in purple are those that I’ve watched this month. Among the January 2012 movie releases, I’ve only managed to watch two films, so these 2 movies were personally rated by me.
Other film ratings came from IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes and tallied film scores of local films from different reviews! <3
Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game of Shadows – (9/10)
This is best sequel I’ve seen in years! And quite oddly, I haven’t even watched the first film and it felt like I just saw a different movie and I (unromantically) fell in love with the characters especially with Holmes! Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is a film full of intense action scenes, fun smart comedy, loud and operatic background music; and thrilling sequences shot in stylish slo-motion. Easily one of the best films of 2012!
We Bought a Zoo – (7.4/10)
Underworld Awakening - 7.2/10
J. Edgar - 7.1/10
Contraband - 6.8/10
Haywire - 6.6/10
My Cactus Heart – 6/10
A Mother’s Story – 6/10
Medy (Pokwang), a make-up artist, was given the chance of a lifetime to accompany a concert star to the United States for a performance. She promised her family that she will return after a week. However, while in America, she stumbled upon a former classmate Helen (Beth Tamayo) who convinced her to stay for good in the land of milk and honey. She initially refused, but eventually gave in, when she got a call one night from her husband that they need a big amount of money to bring her youngest daughter to the hospital. America has not been the friendliest to her and our story begins with her coming home to Manila literally with nothing.Medy’s two kids, King (Rayver Cruz) and Queenie (Xyriel Manabat) are now 19 and 7. King struggles with the return of his mother. Animosity, resentment, shame, and anger are issues he has built with Medy. For the young Queenie, it’s getting to know the mother, who she thought would one day come out of a Balikbayan Box. And as for her husband, Medy discovers something she least expected.
The Darkest Hour – 5/10
Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked -4/10
