What lies ahead? Pinoy Movies 2013 ListJan 07
The year 2013 feels like it’s going to be a good year for the struggling cinema. With the line-up of 2013 pinoy movies, Philippine Cinema might finally get a gasp of fresh air from the return of award-winning directors Tikoy Aguiluz, Peque Gallaga, Erik Matti and more others on the big screen for their respective commercial feature films.
The indie scene is not to miss as well with two new Film festivals back to back! In February will be the QCinema Film Festival and come March and we have Unitel’s Cinefilipino film festival which will make every cinephile’s summer movie-going two times better.
Although, no specific date has been set for the Sineng Pambasa: Master Directors Edition, this FDCP event is to die for! It’s like an extended Director’s showcase of Cinemalaya. It will feature new films from Elwood Perez, Romy Suzara, Jun Urbano, Gil Portes, Maryo J. de los Reyes, Peque Gallaga, Mel Chionglo, Tikoy Aguiluz, Joel Lamangan, Carlos Siguion-Reyna, Jose Javier Reyes and a yet no to be named director. Hopefully the late Celso Ad Castillo’s son will take the slot for the film ‘Ang Lalaking Nangarap Na Maging Nora Aunor’.
And of course, there’s the annual and highly anticipated Cinemalaya Film Festival in July and Cinema One Originals in November. In December, there’s the New Wave category of MMFF and hopefully, if everything goes according to plan, the 39th Metro Manila Film Festival entries will be better and less controversial.
Also this year will be more restorations of classic pinoy movies and more indie theatrical releases. We heard the zombie film ‘The Grave Bandits’ is set to have a commercial release this year together with other 2012 Cinemalaya and Cinema One Originals entries.
Isn’t it an exciting year?
So if you’re wondering what pinoy movies will hit the big screen this 2013 check out our list after the jump!
The year of the snake will have a very seductive start with Peque Gallaga’s Seduction movie starring Richard Gutierrez, Sarah Lahbati and Solenn Heussaff. In the contrary, the opening salvo of all 2013 pinoy movies will be shown in the near end of January, on the 30th.
Peque Gallaga’s classic film Oro Plata Mata which got restored may be screened in theaters sometime in January. Sorry. We’re not very sure of that but a cinema teaser by Star Cinema says it’s going to be this January. Let’s just wait for an official announcement!
After Erik Matti’s Rigodon, Viva Entertainment is up for another sexy drama film directed by Joel Lamangan. Menor De Edad is topbilled by a newcomer Meg Imperial. It was booked for a January 2013 release according to our source.
Coco Martin and Julia Montes teams up again for a romance drama film called A Moment in Time to be released on February 13, 2013. Right, it’s a Star Cinema movie! You probably know what to expect here.
Interestingly, Regal Entertainment might release either the Coco Martin and Marian Rivera movie or Adolf Alix Jr.’s Ride To Love on the same date. And speaking of Marian Rivera, her movie with Richard Gutierrez entitled My Lady Boss is also expected for a Valentines Day release.
The late Celso Ad Castillo’s Bahay ng Lagim is also due on February, according to this article. There’s also John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo’s 3rd movie It Takes A Man and A Woman which will surely break box office records. In the middle of the year Erik Matti will finally get to release the much anticipated Filipino action movie OTJ. In short for On The Job, OTJ is starring Piolo Pascual, Gerald Anderson and Joel Torre.
Teen love team Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla will also grace the big screen together with their romcom movie Dyosa. The Angelica, Angel, Toni, Bea movie will also start kicking this year from what we heard it’s given a tentative title 24/7 Beauties. Other Star Cinema projects lined up this year according to an article posted by Abs-Cbn News follows:
Two Joyce Bernal movies, a horror movie starring Vhong Navarro co-produced by a Malaysian producer (with that I’m thinking Carmen Soo might be in it) and a romance movie starring Kim Chiu and Xian Lim which could be the previously announced The Ghost Wedding.
Chito Rono is also back for two movies this year. One with Judy Ann Santos and the return of the horror queen Kris Aquino. Star Cinema’s maindie arm Skylight Films is also prepping for the comedy movie Tuhog starring Eugene Domingo, Jake Cuenca and Enchong Dee, to be released this March.
GMA Films and Octoarts ventures into a horror anthology film entitled ‘Pinoy Urban Legends‘. Finally, Dingdong Dantes’ Dance of the Steel Barsgets a tentative release date in March as well.
